The CLAYTEX bentonite sheets is an important example of a product that exploits the peculiar hydro-expansive capacities of sodium bentonite.
The installation of the CLAYTEX sheet, consisting of two flexible and permeable geotextiles produced with a vertical movement of the needles, in several layers of veil (needling), assembled to contain within them a granular sodium bentonite with a high content of montmorillonite (5 kg/m²), provides for the confinement of the sheets by “backfilling” and compacting the filling material in order to place the CLAYTEX sheet in adherence to the structure, confined by the filling materials. The confinement described is intended to prevent the complete expansion of sodium bentonite. The result is the formation of a sticky gel, coherent, impermeable to water, self-sealing, ready to be reactivated with further expansive processes in the event of cracking and deformation of the structure.
