While the waterproofing efficiency of the waterstops, curbs or hydro-expansive joints, based on the ability to react and swell in presence of water, has promoted its use in constant diffusion, in the new buildings and in the existing the function of the waterstop profiles in PVC, based on the shape of the profile and the elasticity of the material, it has reduced the application fields, limiting them almost exclusively to new constructions and to joints for expansion and rebend connection.
The profile of the PVC waterstops is in fact designed to make the path of the water permeating longer and more difficult and to ensure, at the same time, the necessary deformation capacity.
In the expansion joints the PVC waterstops are “drowned” in their full width in the two concrete castings while in the expansion joints the PVC waterstops with central bulb shape are positioned with the central bulb outside the castings.
In this way, the stresses arising from the thermal variations and from the settlement of the cement conglomerate can be absorbed thanks to the high elasticity of the material and the geometric specificity of the central bulb.
