Solvent-based products are very effective materials, as they are much more forgiving regarding the parameters of the surface to be treated in terms of humidity, temperature and porosity. Moreover, most solvents have a lower density than water, hence a higher surface penetration capacity, especially when the material to be impregnated has high levels of moisture or reduced porosity. Typical examples for use are treating virtually non-absorbent materials lacking absorbency, such as compact natural stones formed in intrusive volcanic environments (granites and the like) or high-grade metamorphic rocks (gneiss, marbles and so on).

The downside is that they are polluting materials that release Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) into the air.

Today, regulations on reducing the environmental impact of such products are quite strict, deterring their use as much as possible and orienting the selection – as is right – towards more sustainable and technologically-advanced products.

Consilex Altrain

Water repellent, colourless, non-pellicular impregnating agent based on silanes and siloxanes in solvent. It protects plaster, hydraulic mortars, natural stone, tuff, and other building materials, from the mechanical-chemical action of rain, from freezing/thawing cycles and from the action of pollutant agents. From the functional point of view, the treated materials have pores and capillarity internally coated but not filled, so there is no deposit of coatings, it does not alter the colour, it does not change the appearance of the surfaces and the water vapour breathability is maintained. These characteristics, together with good chemical stability (against oxygen, UV radiation and pollutants) and the total absence of harmful by-products, make the product suitable for application on different supports, in various environments of exposure and in particular for interventions on artefacts of historical-artistic value. The high capillary penetration and diffusion capacity of Consilex Altrain makes the product also suitable for use for chemical barrier injection treatments against rising damp.

Protech Balcony

Solution based on special silane and siloxane resins in solvent, highly penetrating, transparent (colourless), for quickly, effectively and economically waterproofing balconies, tiled terraces, concrete roofings, external stairs, etc., without removing or intervening on the existing flooring. It does not change the appearance of the support on which it is applied and it does not alter the original slipperiness or its water vapour breathability. It is quick to apply and does not require skilled labour or professional equipment. The flooring treated will be usable after only 2 hours of laying.

A Consilex No-Stain treatment results not only in water repellency but also resistance to stains and oil. The pores of the materials remain open whilst the water vapour breathability is unchanged. Grease oil and stains can be easily removed from the treated surfaces.

It consists of ethyl esters of silicic acid in solvent, hardening by reaction with atmospheric humidity. It is applied by spraying at low pressure, until the treated surfaces are rejected, in order to guarantee an extremely deep consolidation.
