HYDRO-EXPANSIVE RUBBERS are generally mixtures of synthetic and natural rubbers activated by specific polymers that expand in contact with water. Depending on the type of rubber, the balance of the mixture, the properties and quantity of reactive polymer, different reaction grades are obtained. The expansion speed is related to the possibility of water penetrating through the surfaces: higher the specific surface area available, higher it is.
Sealgum
Hydro-expanding waterstop sealant with a special mix of natural and synthetic rubbers and hydrophilic agents: in contact with water, it increases up to triple its volume compared to the original size (if used in environments with the presence of sea water the expansion will take place anyway but slightly reduced in volume). Sealgum is a simple waterstop easy to use, not requiring particular preparation on the supports, pre-shaped compartments, etc.. Sealgum waterstops are available in three different sections: Sealgum 20.05 = 20x5 mm; Sealgum 20.10 = 20x10 mm; Sealgum 20.20 = 20x20 mm.

Permanently elastic, modified silane-based polymeric adhesive for sealing gaskets, joints and curbs, of both bentonitic (e.g. Clayseal 25.20, Clayseal 25.20 SW) and hydro-expansive rubber (e.g. Sealgum 20.05), for waterproofing cast elements. The adhesive is a substitute for the more traditional nailing of sealants.
